Overview

The Ryder Cup has defined Sam Torrance's life as a professional golfer. As the 2010 Ryder Cup approaches, he examines the job of captaincy itself and looks at how the event has changed since he was trying to qualify for it as a player in the late 1970s. Author Biography

Sam Torrance was a Ryder Cup-winning captain in 2002, a vice captain in 1999, and a leading player in eight consecutive European teams. He made his Cup debut in 1981, famously holed the winning putt at The Belfry in 1985 and was also a member of the first European side to win in America in 1987.
