Overview

A wide range of memoir-like pieces, including interviews, letters, and verse, makes this collection a fitting companion to Fahey's How Bluegrass Music Destroyed My Life. Published posthumously, this volume rounds out the life of the legendary guitarist and composer, providing more backstory behind his creative ferocity. The stories provide a personal view into decades of his poignant insights into life and music.

Reviews

“Fahey's writing flickers with the same black humor and ambivalent mysticism that imbues his music.” —Bill Meyer, music critic, Chicago Reader

Author Biography

John Fahey pioneered the steel-string acoustic guitar as a solo instrument and was a highly influential fingerstyle guitarist, serving as a model for guitarists ranging from Leo Kottke to Thurston Moore. He recorded more than 30 albums over the course of his lifetime. He was ranked 35th on Rolling Stone’s “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list.
