Spitfire Ventures started business in 2001 as the manufacturer of a novelty product called Talking TP. Thereafter it developed miniature “refrigerator magnet books” which are credit card sized magnet books which open accordion style and are waterproof and tear proof and adhere to a refrigerator or file cabinet. Initially made for the American Red Cross, the line was soon developed for promotional sale to various companies. Later, the Company developed a specialty of writing and publishing Emergency Preparedness books for many State agencies both in the US and Canada. At this time Spitfire still creates these books for custom uses but has added the current retail line also.

Spitfire won a contest run by Entrepreneur Magazine and Southwest Airlines against more than 500 competitors for the best business plan which was based on the magnetic books sold as retail products. The current crop of retail books for both Spitfire and for Books for Dummies is the culmination of that business plan.
