Overview

Focusing primarily on the individual professional in today’s Nordic public-sector organizations, this book describes everyday problems experienced by individuals in official positions. The analysis examines current trends such as rising rates of sick leave, more cases of mental burnout, decreasing resources, and constant demand for professional improvement, while using specific examples to illustrate the tensions that arise between the individual and the organization/profession. Also discussed are the rapid changes in organizations, leadership, and technology, the increased individualization, the complexity in relationships, and the intensified pace and fragmentation of work in the professional’s working life. This title intends to signal an invitation to further the research about a dynamic field where today’s professionals meet the requirements of their professions and organizations.
