The creator is telling the story of the loss of her own mother, a difficult and demanding woman, and the strains it places on the individual family members. It is not told in any maudlin manner but rather in an everyday, matter-of-fact way which best describes this all-too-common situation. The cartoon-like depiction of the characters helps remove it from the specific and opens it up to anyone facing the possible demise of a parent.

"None of this is written in any kind of deliberately maudlin way. It might tug at the heart strings, but only because of how true it is, how human, how mundane. . . . Takinami's story is beautiful and painful and 100% recommended reading." 'Brain vs Book'
