Overview

The young Dorian Gray commissions a portrait of himself from Basil Hallward. Basil is captivated by his subject's beauty and believes that Gray is the source of his finest work. Through Basil, Dorian Gray meets Lord Henry Wotton, an aristocrat who introduces Dorian to hedonism, the pursuit of beauty and pleasure as the only matters worthy of any contemplation. Author Biography

Oscar Wilde was a novelist, poet, literary critic, and playwright. He excelled at highlighting the hypocrisy of his contemporary society. He was ostracized for being a homosexual during Victorian England, which led to his imprisonment.  This classic continues to enthrall readers and has become a staple in the literary world.
