He first photographed the band in November 1973 at their breakthrough gig at Imperial College, London, beginning a collaboration that lasted through the mid-1970s as Queen rocketed to fame, and resulted in a wealth of defining images. From his vast archive, Mick Rock has selected over 250 exceptional images-from the iconic album cover shoots for Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack to live performances, as well as unseen outtakes, test Polaroids and informal shots of the band members at home, in the studio and backstage. Born in London and educated at Cambridge, Mick Rock graduated to rock photography through his association with Syd Barrett but is best known for capturing iconic images of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Queen during the 1970s. He has been a video director, art director, writer and photo-collagiste. A resident of New York since the early 1980s, his 'lust for the image' burns as strong as ever.
