Counselling People with Developmental Disabilities Who Have Been Sexually Abused

Overview

Developed because there is a dearth of information the growing body of research that demonstrates that people with developmental disabilities are at greater risk for sexual abuse and that appropriately adapted therapy services for people with developmental disabilities who have been sexually abused are rarely available.

Author Biography

Sheila Mansell, PhD, is a practicing psychologist, a consultant for the Sensory-Multihandicap Division of Consulting Services for Edmonton, Alberta, public schools), and specializes in providing legal assessments, therapy, and consulting and training services to people with dual diagnosis. She also serves as a consulting editor with the Journal of Mental Retardation. She lives in Edmonton, Alberta. Dick Sobsey is a professor of educational psychology and director of the J. P. Das Developmental Disabilities Center at the University of Alberta–Admonton. He lives in Admonton, Alberta.
