Overview

There are thinkers who completely transform our way of thinking, to the point which nothing can ever be thought of the same way again. No one remains unpunished after experiencing these masters of suspicion. To think about history, God, man, or liberty after them is an intriguing exercise. The masters of suspicion in this book—Marx, Nietzsche, and Freud—make the pillars of Western civilization teeter; they are at the center of a seismic movement that substantially changes the order of things. Marx, Nietzsche, and Freud purify the image of God and the religious experience. Without meaning to, they help us practice this suspicion with respect to our own beliefs and to empty our minds of these anthropomorphic deities that we create for ourselves. In this book, Francesc Torralba explains with clarity and rigor the contribution of each one of these men to the criticism of inherited religion and anthropology.
