QOMIX Classics
Qomix Classics is a bold new imprint from Optique Sutra, an India- and Singapore-based publishing enterprise founded by artists, writers, graphic designers and media professionals. It is conceived as a direct response to one of the most underacknowledged crises in global education: the disengagement of young people from reading and literary text.
The imprint's ambition is singular — to build the world's first Library of Universal Classics, Comicised (LUCC): the great works of world literature, across cultures and traditions, transformed into stunning, sophisticated comic-graphic narratives available in print and digital formats across dozens of languages. From the Western canon to the literary traditions of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, to under-heralded Indigenous literature, Qomix Classics is reshaping how the world reads.
What sets the imprint apart is its uncompromising fidelity to the source material. These are not abridgements or retellings. Each adaptation retains the original language, syntax, tone and atmosphere of the text, overseen by highly skilled writer-editors and literary scholars to ensure interpretive integrity. Reading a Qomix Classic is, in literary and aesthetic terms, the next best thing to reading the original.
Current titles include Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Kafka's The Metamorphosis, Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own, Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher (and Other Stories), Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Shelley's Frankenstein, among others — with a rapidly expanding catalogue to follow. Qomix Classics is also committed to creating unabridged, annotated editions of the great Shakespearean texts — beginning with Macbeth, already part of the first titles available for distribution.
