Smith's "is a sophisticated poetry whose pleasures come from sounds felt right in the mouth while reading silently. And from feeling, now and then, that one is exactly in among the gears of mind, however it works, what we don't know." —Alice Notley
Rod Smith edited the journal Aerial, publishes Edge Books, and for many years managed Bridge Street Books in Washington, DC. Smith has published numerous poetry books along with Protective Immediacy (Roof Books) and co-edited The Selected Letters of Robert Creeley. He has taught at the The Iowa Writers' Workshop, The Maryland Institute College of Art, The Corcoran College of Art + Design, and George Mason University.
