Oldcastle Books was formed in 1985 by Ion Mills before starting a crime fiction imprint, No Exit Press, in 1987, which has been the mainstay of the company ever since.
A specialist gambling imprint, High Stakes, supported by a London based gambling bookshop opened in 1998. The Pocket Essentials imprint was started in 1999 as a niche list providing inexpensive pocket guides to interesting areas of history, film, literature and philosophy.
Kamera Books, was founded in 2005, aimed at anyone interested in cinema and popular culture and is complemented by Creative Essentials, which publishes accessible, comprehensive and affordable how-to guides on a range of film subjects, written by experts in their field.
The new decade has seen Oldcastle Books move into the ebook field with enthusiasm while still maintaining a commitment to the printed book.
