Mrkusich

Tracing New Zealand’s most powerful modernist’s work, this invaluable study is the first account of the leading abstract painter, Milan Mrkusich. The first half of this biographical and artistic study focuses on Mrkusich's life, the international and national contexts of his work, and the nature of his abstractionism, while the second half examines his work in-depth—providing nine chapters with color plates detailing each of the artist's major series. From his early emblem paintings and triumphant corner works of the 1960s to his broad recognition in the 1970s, this examination demonstrates how an artist from the Kaipara mudflats has produced abstract art admired around the world.
