Overview

MOONLIGHT CAN BE DEADLY (A Discount Detective Mystery #4)

Ritual human sacrifice. Ecofeminists. Jealousy. And a "dateworthy" handsome professor.

A full moon re-enactment of an ancient human sacrifice ritual turns deadly. An ecofeminist group causes a panic at a climate rally. And a woman involved with both events is kidnapped.

When PI Cameron Chandler and her colleague are hired to protect a client's niece at a full moon ritual, they think it's a simple one-night assignment. But they soon find themselves enmeshed in a far-reaching investigation. As the full moon wanes, Cameron confronts a murderer and must choose between doing things by the book or saving herself.

Cameron lives with her mother, her two children and a dog called No-name in a carriage house in Seattle. For the most part, it's a good arrangement. But her kids are subject to typical adolescent ups and downs, and her mother has strong opinions about how Cameron should be living her life. Cameron's family life adds a lighthearted distraction to the dangers she faces as a PI.

Moonlight Can Be Deadly is Book 4 in the Discount Detective Mystery series, in which a single mom reinvents herself and ends up working as a PI with quirky colleagues, a mysterious boss with a secret past, in an agency whose motto is "Vigilance You Can Afford."

1st Place Chanticleer International Mystery & Mayhem Series Award for the Discount Detective Series.

Reviews

"Survival Can Be Deadly is a delightful mystery with charming characters, lighthearted humor, heartwarming family moments, a spunky sleuth, an intriguing look at survivalists, and the stunning location of the San Juan Islands." —Liz Konkel, Readers Favorite – 1/20

Campaigning Can Be Deadly: "Stuart writes with a type of conversational casualness that is easy to read and moves the story along at a comfortable pace. Her characters are delineated sharply. This is a tale of good folks involved in others' bad behavior, and how it turns out just might surprise you." —Joe Kilgore, US Review of Books – 8/20

Shopping Can Be Deadly: ". . . fans of Janet Evanovich’s work will likely enjoy this book. An often fun and suspenseful mystery." —Kirkus Reviews – 6/21

"Readers who like stories that evolve to embrace international affairs, yet remain thoroughly grounded in strong characters whose lives remain at the forefront of their decision-making processes, will relish the adventure and intrigue of a P.I. who faces personal and political conundrums as well as investigative challenges." —Midwest Book Review – 8/21

"In Stuart’s strong fourth mystery featuring Cameron Chandler (after 2021’s Shopping Can Be Deadly), Cameron, a PI employed by Penny-wise Investigations, an agency housed in a Seattle shopping mall, gets a violent and bizarre case, contrasting with her usual prosaic workload. ... Readers will hope to see a lot more of the endearing Cameron." —Publishers Weekly

"Charlotte Stuart hits all the cozy mystery marks with a well-balanced blend of quirky characters, odd twists, and lively writing—adding a dollop of droll political commentary for added flavor... Overall, Stuart delivers compelling and satisfying entertainment that still feels firmly rooted in the challenges of the modern world." —BlueInk Review
