Overview

This is the Japanese language edition of the critically acclaimed children's bookMax Goes to the Moon, which has been read in English from the International Space Station for NASA’s Story Time From Space program and made into a planetarium show.

Author Biography

Dr. Ichishiro Konno, a native of Japan, holds a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and teaches at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Astrophysicist/educator Jeffrey Bennett is the author of leading college textbooks in astronomy, astrobiology, mathematics, and statistics and of more than a dozen books for children and the public. Seven of his books have been launched into space, including six children’s books selected for NASA’s Story Time From Space Program, in which astronauts read books aloud from the International Space Station and videos are posted freely for anyone in the world to watch at storytimefromspace.com. Among other endeavors, Dr. Bennett served as a Visiting Senior Scientist at NASA Headquarters in the early 1990s, where he led efforts to forge stronger links between the research and education communities, and he proposed and co-led development of the Voyage Scale Model Solar System on the National Mall in Washington, DC. He is also the creator of the app “Totality by Big Kid Science,” which helps people understand and plan trips to see total solar eclipses. Alan Okamoto (1957–2012) was born at the “Birth of the Space Age.” His mother claims to have purposefully sculpted his head to be as round as a “perfect space helmet.” His father was a farmer and civil engineer who rode his trusty tractor while wearing what Alan understood to be a spacesuit. On weekends, Alan and his siblings would explore the California Central Valley countryside, where they farmed and played in the mud. Exploring opened their minds to nature, as they exercised their imaginations and observations. Alan was greatly honored when his work was selected to be flown in space for NASA’s Story Time From Space program.
