Overview

Spiritualism and theosophy are the best additions to Spanish society at the end of the century. Both are influenced by the literary manifestations of the era. The author Emilia Pardo Bazán integrated many stylistic risks in this novel: the visual spectrum, auras, animated objects, premeditated dreams, and transmission of spirits. This does not mean that the author communicates with such doctrines, but rather the opposite—it has been noted that her previous few novels tend to have a Christian orientation.

Author Biography

Emilia Pardo Bazán is considered to be one of the best Spanish novelists of the 19th century and one of the most distinguished writers in literary history. She also wrote travel books, dramatic works, and poetry. She is best known as the author of Los pazos de Ulloa, La tribuna, Insolación, Morriña, and La quimera.
