Overview

Written in 1910, this story chronicles the life of an Argentine politician, Mauricio Gomez Herrera, the self-proclaimed grandson of legendary gaucho outlaw, Juan Moreira. Covering the social and political scandals during the different stages in Herrera’s life, this account portrays a power-hungry man without scruples who would get rid of anyone or anything that got in the way of his career and provides a portrait of a political class that refuses to change or disappear. Escrita en 1910, esta historia relata la vida de un político argentino, Mauricio Gómez Herrera, el autoproclamado nieto del legendario bandolero gaucho, Juan Moreira. Abarcando los escándalos politos y sociales durante los diferentes etapas de la vida de Herrera, este relato retrata un hombre hambriento de poder y sin cimientos ni escrúpulos que se iba deshaciéndose de todo y todos los que estorbaron su carrera política y provee un retrato de una clase política que rehúsa cambiar o desaparecer.

Author Biography

Roberto J. Payró was a journalist, a novelist, and a screenwriter. He wrote for La Nación in Buenos Aires and was a correspondent during World War I. He is the author of several novels, including El capitán Vergara, El casamiento de Laucha, El falso Inca, and El mar dulce.
