The end of the Cold War saw a resurgence of nationalism, a romantic ideology that seemed to have faded away. In order to experience and understand this phenomenon, Michael Ignatieff traveled to six countries that saw a particularly strong trend of nationalism and compiled his findings into this essay that remains of great political relevance.

Michael Ignatieff is an author, historian, and former politician. His book Blood and Belonging, which was also broadcast as a documentary on BBC, received the Gordon Montador Award for the Best Canadian Book on Social Issues.
