Overview

Pscyhoanalyst Marie Balmary and theologist Daniel Marguerat debate the Biblical idea of retribution in the afterlife for actions taken during life in this text of a live conference moderated by Francesc Torralba at the Monastery of Pedralbes in Barcelona in 2008. The two authors face the question of final judgment from its root: Biblical writings. Balmary and Marguerat discover that the passages suggest a different meaning from the frequent, severe interpretations; they believe the readings show mankind's future free of fear, adding an unsuspected dimension to the Biblical scriptures. Balmary argues that psychoanalysis and spirituality, though seemingly from incompatible origins, are both comforts of humanity.
