From "Real Rape" to Real Justice

Overview

For more than 35 years, academics, lawyers, judges, and community workers have criticized the New Zealand criminal justice system for low reporting and conviction rates in cases of rape and sexual assault, the concerns of which culminate in this thorough investigation of the country’s policies regarding sexual violence. The chapters highlight possible reforms of the pretrial and trial processes in such cases and recommend changes to the current system.

Author Biography

Elisabeth McDonald is an associate professor at the school of law at Victoria University–Wellington. Yvette Tinsley is an associate professor at the school of law at Victoria University–Wellington. She is the author of Evidence in Criminal Proceedings. They are the coauthors of The Evidence Act 2006.
