Overview

Thrilling tales of courageous and adventurous seafarers

This collection of seafaring sagas displays how sailors fight their way across vast waters, face unknown dangers, and find the courage to battle forces of nature with amazing fortitude. This collection includes the story of Mike Plant, America's greatest solo sailing racer, as he headed out to sea from New York harbor never to be seen again; the journey of one man on a wooden fishing skiff who faced an early sea ice storm to search desperately for a lost partner; the courageous adventure of Gerry Spiess aboard Yankee Girl, a 10-foot home-built plywood sloop, as he left Long Beach, California, to begin a bold voyage in the smallest craft ever to sail across the Pacific Ocean; and the tragic legend of the men aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald who found themselves in a deadly race against time as a terrible storm deepened. These powerfully retold stories will sweep readers into the world of high seas adventure and desperate survival of outstanding sailors aboard memorable boats.

Reviews

"Mucho adventure...You'll want to add Bree's book to your library. Just don't plan to catch up on any sleep."  —Small Craft Advisor

"Cracking good adventures at sea...This assembly of true seafaring adventures stands right up there with the best."  —KLIATT

"Sea-story fans...who enjoy adventure narratives won't be disappointed."  —Cruising World

"Here's a blast from the past -- in many ways--and it's a great disaster book to curl up with. Broken Seas is a collection of true stories about notable vessels, voyages and sailors. Pick up a copy and settle in." —www.TalkOfTheDock.com

"A collection of remarkable tales of adventure, rescue, and loss on the high seas." —WoodenBoat

"'Out There' is a color feature of author Marlin Bree's magazine artwork of boats, storms, and good times on Lake Superior. It has quotes about the boater and tells about his boating books, including Broken Seas and Wake of the Green Storm." —The Ensign

In a mailing as well as an e-mail blast at boaters, including customers, Beckson did a feature on several of its products used during the record-setting trans-Pacific and trans-Atlantic voyages of Yankee Girl. The catalog included a color photo of the 10-foot sailboat and specifically mentioned Marlor's Press's Broken Seas: True Tales of Extraordinary Seafaring Adventures, and, the former national bestseller but now out of print, Alone Against the Atlantic (by Gerry Spiess with Marlin Bree).
