Overview

British Railway Accidents and Incidents in Maps and Pictures describes some of the most interesting incidents that have occurred on Britain’s railways over the last 200 years, and pinpoints the exact locations of where they happened on old railway maps from the time. From the earliest misfortune of the sad fate of William Huskisson MP, mown down at the opening ceremony of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway by that most famous of engines, Stephenson’s Rocket, to recent disasters such as those at Clapham Junction and Ladbroke Grove, this book gives the reader an absorbing ride through time, charting minor incidents along with major calamities. Original photographs from postcards have been used where possible, portraying vividly the scenes just as they occurred.
