Overview

Drawing on extensive archives and personal knowledge, this biography reveals the many facets that combined to make up the character of W. A. Sutton, the gifted New Zealand painter. Documenting the story of his grandparents, parents, and the modest home he grew up in, this portrayal of an attentive son, steadfast friend, erudite academic, resolute administrator, and professional artist captures the essence of this talented Canterbury artist. Many of his paintings, some of which are reproduced in full color, are also included.
