Overview

More than anything, Benny wants to have a sleepover in the boxcar in Grandfather's backyard. When Henry tells Benny to call his friends to see if they can spend the night, Benny is thrilled—until people keep mentioning the word "scared."

Author Biography

Gertrude Chandler Warner was born in 1890 in Putnam, Connecticut, where she taught school and wrote. She was inspired to write The Boxcar Children because she had often imagined how delightful it would be to live in a caboose or freight car. Encouraged by the book's success, she went on to write eighteen more stories about the Alden children.
