From the creation of unforgettable dialogue, memorable scenes, inspiring scripts, and awesome special effects to the cinematic portrayal of major events and the details of casting quirks and untimely deaths, this guide divides the big screen’s obvious and more subtle groundbreaking moments into categories—actors, actresses, directors, and producers—and explores their contributions to the history of cinema. From the Lumière brothers’ first public film exhibition in 1895 to the arrival of sound, from the golden age of Hollywood to the French New Wave and contemporary Asian cinema, this guide captures every facet of movie magic.
