Overview

A strikingly modern textual experiment, this collection of poems takes an audaciously playful approach to poetic structure and borrows inspiration from the most varied of sources: art exhibitions, song lyrics, a London Underground map, and the architecture of an airport. Written with precise attention to detail and containing exceptionally musical rhythms, the pieces are influenced from a range of unlikely sources—from Frank O’Hara and Gertrude Stein to the artwork of Yoko Ono—and blending seamlessly to produce a refreshingly different collection of verse.

Reviews

"Matthew Welton's first collection, The Book of Matthew, is an achievement: it arrives with a unique and distinct sensibility; his poems create their own evocative and elusive worlds."  —Charles Bainbridge, The Guardian
