Author Biography
Louisa May Alcott grew up in poverty and was educated by several well-known friends of her father such as Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. She was a dedicated defender of women#&39;s rights and towards the end of her life she was also abolitionist. Her best-known work, Little Women, is based on an idealized version of her own family life, and Jo March#&39;s character is somewhat autobiographical although, unlike her character, Louisa May Alcott herself never married or had children.
