Pastorelas

Jesús González Dávila (Author), Willebaldo López (Author), Román Calvo (Author), Tomás Urtusástegui (Author), Dante del Castillo (Author)

Both the practical and logistical aspects of producing a piece of theatre and the historical and social evolution of theater are given thorough treatment in this introduction to, and explanation of, the tradition of the Mexican pastorela. The descendant of a theatrical tradition that dates back to rituals of sacrament and religious offering in medieval Spain, the traditional pastorela focuses on the conflict between good and evil as experienced by the shepherds on their journey to witness the birth of Jesus.

Jesús González Dávila is the author of De la calle, Un delicioso jardín, Pastel de zarzamora, Polo peota amarilla, and Talón del diablo. Willebaldo López is a playwright and director who has taught theater arts at El Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. Dante del Castillo is an actor, director, and theater critic, and the coauthor of Teatro para amantes de teatro. Román Calvo is the author of Teatro para niños and the coauthor of Teatro para amantes de teatreo. Tomás Urtusástegui is the author of farces, comedies, and pastorelas, including Cupo limitado.
