Indian Agriculture in the New Millennium
Changing Perceptions and Development Policy
Volume 1

N. A. Mujumdar (Editor), Uma Kapila (Editor), S. S. Johl (Foreword by)

Written by a distinguished group of scholars and economists, and at the cutting of current research in the chosen field, these two volumes scan the ups and downs of agriculture development processes in India over a period of five decades and the policy issues involved at various stages along the way. Included in the first volume are overviews of policy framework, agricultural growth, and investment in agriculture. The second volume covers water resources, institutional reforms, food security, and globalisation. Together, the two volumes promise to be an invaluable resource for researchers and policymakers.

N. A. Mujumdar is the editor of the Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics and the former principal advisor of the Reserve Bank of India. A Nuffield Fellow of Oxford University, he has also worked for the International Monetary Fund, Food and Agriculture Organization, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the World Bank. Uma Kapila is a senior editor at the Academic Foundation and the author and editor of Indian economy textbooks. S. S. Johl is an eminent Indian agronomist and the president of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics. He has chaired several high-level committees, authored and edited numerous publications, and published more than 300 papers in national and international journals.
