Sam Feinstein

Patricia Stark Feinstein (Author)

"Clearly and elegantly written." —Irving Sandler, author, Art of the Postmodern Era

Capturing his life's work, this retrospective of Sam Feinstein offers a glimpse into the art, philosophy, and teachings of an artist who painted for more than 70 years—the last 40 in self-chosen obscurity—while he explored the infinite potential of the visual language and continually refined color-forms in his dynamically expressive compositions. This collectible edition includes a DVD of Feinstein's 1950 documentary, Hans Hofmann, a 28-minute, black-and-white film focused on Hofmann's philosophy and principles of art that includes a sequence of Hofmann painting The Window, now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum.

Patricia Stark Feinstein is a painter, a teacher, a curator, a lecturer, and a former faculty member at Riverdale Country School in New York City, where she taught art and art history for 22 years. She is the director of the Feinstein Project at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, where she also curated the 2008 retrospective exhibition of her late husband, Sam Feinstein.
