The small problems that can deeply trouble a child—like the loss of a library card—are overcome in the context of an understanding and caring family; and the hopes of these girls as to careers, weddings, and adulthood in general are lovingly described.
Sydney Taylor grew up among immigrant families on New York City's Lower East Side prior to World War I and wrote the All-of-a-Kind Family stories for her daughter.
