Publishing Assistant - Triumph Books


Triumph Books is seeking a part-time, temporary, Publishing Assistant to support its Publicity, Sales and Marketing department. In addition to the job functions below, this individual will pursue dynamic sales objectives on a title by title basis as well as participate in creation of marketing campaign verbiage, attend department brainstorm sessions, and help achieve title campaign objectives and annual goals. 

The structure of the position is as follows:

  • 25 hours/week in office July – August, Monday – Friday
  • 35 hours/week in office September – December, Monday – Friday, with option to extend

Wage: $12/hour

The Ideal Candidate Would Be:

  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Technologically-savvy, with experience in website editing, Microsoft Suite, and Adobe In-Design
  • Has experience in social media management – Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram
  • Has experience in event planning and research encouraged
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple projects
  • Team player & professional attitude, ability to work with a variety of personalities
  • Enthusiasm for books / sports a bonus


Below is an overview of primary marketing functions of the Publisher Assistant. In addition to these items, Publishing Assistant will be asked to participate in creation of marketing campaign verbiage, attend and contribute to department brainstorm sessions, and help achieve title campaign objectives and annual goals. 

  • Events: Coordinate select front and backlist author events with Marketing Manager’s aide, assist in author event checks, mount and mail promotional posters and flyers, and provide additional help with fourth quarter holiday events
  • Website: Update events calendar, post monthly promotions, create seasonal short-links, edits to the home page, and assist department with direct marketing initiatives
  • Ebooks: Collaborate with Marketing team on monthly and quarterly ebook nominations
  • Social Media: Run Pinterest account and assist with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as instructed
  • Office Maintenance: Handle daily mailings, monthly supply order, office stock needs and returns
  • Research and Outreach: To team conventions, bookfairs, libraries, book awards, etc

  • Execute daily mailings on behalf of department 
  • Research relevant team, corporate and personnel contacts for sales opportunities
  • Explore corporate research for special buys of Fall ’17 and Spring ’18 titles
  • Create sales reports, as needed by Sales Manager
  • Handle author orders and outreach
  • Facilitate 4th quarter retail store outreach 


Below is an overview of primary publicity functions of the Publishing Assistant. 

  • Manage publicity for six or more titles in Triumph’s Fall 2017 catalog
  • Write press releases for Fall 2017 titles
  • Write mailing letters for Fall 2017 titles
  • Send daily individual mailings of Fall 2017 titles to media outlets
  • Send bulk publicity mailings for Fall 2017 titles to media outlets
  • Post media placements to Triumph’s web site
  • Update sports blog spreadsheet throughout the fall season
