Overview

Other Voices, Other Lives is a selection of poems, plays, and interviews drawn from over 40 years of work by one of America's most beloved and influential women of letters. Grace Cavalieri writes of women's lives, loves, and work in a multitude of voices. The book also includes interview excerpts from her public radio series, The Poet & the Poem. Her incisive interviews with Robert Pinsky, Lucille Clifton, and Josephine Jacobsen offer profound insights into the writing life.

Reviews

"The stunning title poem "With" opens new poetic ground, marrying Grace Cavalieri's familiar tonal registers to an associational structure that links fragments of past and present to evoke the inexpressible intensity of feeling." —Merrill Leffler, Mark The Music

"Grace Paley writes some poems, but our real Paley of the poem is Grace Cavalieri, who is as singular and winning a voice as Paley's Mrs. Raftery." —Roland Flint, Stubborn

"How wild and wonderful Grace's poetry is. I love the wild. It is there but we cover it with the tame. Grace uncovers it. That's her gift. I say Thank You." —Ruth Stone, Secondhand Coat

"Grace Cavalieri is truly a seer—and a sayer of words, that pierce and heal at once." —Daniel Berrigan, S.J., Daniel Berrigan: Poetry, Drama, Prose
