Overview

Harness the capabilities of Java for programming Lego robots

As the only book to apply the versatile Java platform to the Lego NXT kit, this project guide is a thorough course in building and programming powerful robots. Instruction moves from basic to sophisticated, providing plenty of cross-education in robotics, mechanical engineering, and Java programming. The dozen robots include a chess-playing arm, a navigating robot that can map a room within a few inches, and a telepresence robot that can be controlled through the Internet. Further expanding the capabilities of the Lego NXT kit are discussions of powerful add-ons to the kit, such as a compass sensor, camera, and Bluetooth GPS.

Reviews

"[This book] succeeds brilliantly in the difficult tasks of introducing the reader to the Java language, to the Mindstorms system, and to some programming techniques peculiar to robotics . . . in such a pleasant way that [the reader] doesn't even realize [he or she is] learning new concepts."  —Mario Ferrari, author, Building Robots with Lego Mindstorms
