Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stane marks the 80th translation of Rowling’s original work

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stane (Scots Language Edition)

In Spring 2018, just a few months after the 20th anniversary of J.K. Rowling’s debut novel, the U.S. will see the first ever Scots translation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone—titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stane (9781785301544, available March 2018). Matthew Fitt and Black & White Publishing’s Itchy Coo imprint, a source for bold new Scots Language translations of classic works, have translated this seminal children’s fantasy text into its 80th language. Fitt’s important work is a milestone for the series and has earned the attention of such major media outlets as NPR. In a recent episode of All Things Considered, Fitt discusses the project of translating such a hugely influential text—and the ways it is just one, albeit important, step toward a full reclamation of Scots language, heritage, and identity.
