Overview

Classic crime tales from an earlier age

An engrossing, illustrated journey into true crime classics of the Victorian era, this omnibus volume contains three works in Rick Geary’s increasingly storied treasuries of murder—Jack the Ripper, The Beast of Chicago, and The Fatal Bullet. Jack the Ripper presents Geary’s inimitable tongue-in-cheek take on the 19th century's most infamous serial killer. H. H. Holmes is the next subject in Geary's award-winning series, as he presents the chilling, methodical murders of the world’s first serial killer in The Beast of Chicago. Lastly, Fatal Bullet explores the assassination of President James A. Garfield at the hands of an obsessive-compulsive stalker. These carefully researched presentations of true crime stories include a bibliography of research sources, presenting true facts about famous murders in an entertaining fashion.

Reviews

"Another strong entry to his standout Treasury."  —William Dowlding, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"Shows all the hallmarks of his previous volumes: in-depth research, attention to detail, dry humor, and detailed, distinctive art."  —VOYA magazine

"Expertly designed and drawn."  —Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine

"Geary's haunting drawings unite seamlessly with his moody, well-researched text."  —Publishers Weekly

"Subtly expressive low-key wit. First-rate historical graphic novel."  —Booklist

"Geary's exquisite black-and-white linework is reminiscent of period woodcuts, and his designs and page layouts are excellent."  —Library Journal

"A must-read for those who love comics and Gothic-tinged history. These pages are an artist's master class. Geary's cinematic style establishes visual rhythms that set the pace for a story that remains vibrant despite the fact that the only voice we read is the narrator's. Beautiful." —Cleveland Plain Dealer (February 7, 2013)
